ServicesOsteopathy

Osteopathy, a calming and gentle approach, appropriate for all ages.

About one hourPrivate roomFrom birth to the golden years

A hands-on, whole-body approach. We look at your whole body, muscles, structure, nervous and circulatory systems as much as organs, to find what isn't working right.

What it is

Looking for the cause, not just the pain.

Osteopathy is concerned with the causes of pain and dysfunction in the body, through precise palpation that aims to release the tissues.

“Osteopaths are like private investigators, with a great deal of knowledge about the different systems and the ways they interact and show up in the human body.”

Treatment can address the muscles and structure of the body, as well as the organs and viscera. You don't need to be in pain to consult: problems like constipation or bloating are often quite uncomfortable, and they can contribute to pain elsewhere.

Before starting, the osteopath goes through a detailed questionnaire on your history, to form an overall picture of what your body has been through. The treatment plan is built from there, tailored to you.

  • Acute pain, or a tension that keeps coming back.
  • Pain that appeared without really knowing how.
  • The doctor sees nothing serious, but you feel something isn't working.
  • The alignment of the spine, legs or arms.

Who it's for

From birth to the golden years.

Osteopathy is practised with great gentleness, which is what makes it possible to offer it to babies as well as seniors. For babies and children, a shorter follow-up session is available.

How it works

About one hour, gently.

  1. Before

    The questionnaire

We start with your history and what brings you in, to form an overall picture.

  2. During

    The assessment, then the treatment

Overall and specific mobility tests, from head to toe, so nothing is missed. Fine palpation to “listen to what the body has to tell us”, then gentle techniques aimed at the muscles, the structure, the organs or the nervous system, depending on what we find.

  3. After

What follows, depending on your needs

One session a week or every two, three or four weeks, with a check-in now and then. We decide together.

Questions

What we're asked before a first session.

How is it different from physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy mainly aims to restore the function of muscles, joints and nerves, with exercises. Osteopathy looks at the whole body, organs included. With Alida, both can happen in the same session.

Is it gentle?

Yes. Osteopathy is practised with great gentleness, which is what makes it possible to offer it from birth.

How many sessions does it take?

It depends on you: one session a week in the acute phase, or every two, three or four weeks, with a check-in now and then. We decide together. By combining approaches, treatment is often more precise and effective, but well-being also comes from giving the body time to integrate the changes made and to rebalance between sessions. The body's homeostasis, or self-regulation, has its role to play too and keeps working, even several days after the treatment.

Do I need to be in pain to consult?

No. Treatments are also useful as prevention, to ease tensions before they cause pain.

Is it covered by insurance?

We issue receipts for your insurance: Alida is a member of Ostéopathie Québec. Check with your insurer what your plan covers.

Can my baby come?

Yes, from birth. The pediatric care has its own page.

Our treatments complement your health care, they do not replace it. If you are being followed for a medical condition, keep that follow-up going and talk to your doctor.
